At Eyre Eye Centre we take the time to listen to you and understand your vision with a comprehensive eye examination. Our eye examinations include, but are not limited to, a detailed assessment of your vision and a full health check of your eye. We will ensure that you are prescribed the best solution for your vision and lifestyle.

Our Services

  • The frequency of your eye examinations depends on a variety of factors. Generally, we recommend an eye health examination every 1-2 years.

    During your appointment we will:

    • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of your visual function

    • Prescribe appropriate vision correction solutions for your individual lifestyle

    • Perform a full health check of the eye, front to back

    • Recommend lifestyle and nutrition modifications, if necessary

  • Children are visual learners, 80% of their learning in their first 12 years comes through vision.

    • We bulk bill school age children up to 17 years

    • We recommend testing from 4 years of age

    • Detection of long sightedness, short sightedness, astigmatism and lazy or turned eyes

    • Assessment of binocular vision, eye coordination and other factors which impact on a child’s ability to read, write and learn effectively.

    An earlier examination is recommended if the following symptoms are evident:

    • One eye turns in or out while the other points straight ahead

    • Frequent blinking

    • Red or watery eyes

    • Sensitivity to light

    • Frequently rubbing the eyes

    • Difficulty concentrating 

    • Tilting head noticeably

    • Covering or closing one eye

    • Difficulty learning to read

    • Holding a book very close to read

    • Squinting or sitting very close when watching television

    • Difficulty recognising familiar people in the distance

    • Complaints of headaches, blurred or double vision

  • New technology means contact lenses are clearer, more comfortable and more convenient than ever. We also have the technology to be able to fit specialty contact lenses, including Orthokeratology and scleral contact lenses.

    OptiLight IPL is an exciting new treatment available at Eyre Eye Centre Port Lincoln. It is used to treat dry eye disease caused by meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), a condition that is notoriously difficult to manage. Eyre Eye Centre is the first optometry practice in South Australia to offer OptiLight treatment.

  • Emergency appointments are always available at Eyre Eye Centre. Our Optometrists are therapeutically endorsed and we can prescribe ocular medication.

    If you have a red eye, any pain, sudden changes to your vision, or a foreign body - just call us or simply show up, and we will fit you in.

  • Drivers’ Licences

    • We offer drivers licence assessments, including heavy vehicle assessment.

    Aviation

    • Our optometrists Elise Pocknee, Tamra Karolewicz & Alek Sims are CASA Credentialed Optometrists for Aviation.

    Safety Glasses

    • We have a certificate of compliance to be able to supply safety glasses that comply with AU/NZ standards.

Extra information

  • We provide complimentary adjustments and servicing for the life of your glasses.

    A 2 year warranty on all frames and lenses (excluding our value range) against manufacturing faults and defects. This does not include normal wear and tear.

    A lifetime service warranty for our eyewear, including free adjustments, cleaning, replacement of nose pads, screws and general care to keep your glasses comfortable and looking good.

    A 3 month prescription warranty on all our prescriptions. If you have difficulty adapting to your new prescription, we will replace the lenses at no charge.

  • We offer a concession discount on our frames and lenses.

  • For your convenience, we can process optical benefit claims for all health funds.

    Your Private Health fund will contribute towards glasses (frames and lenses), contact lenses, prescription sunglasses, and prescription safety glasses.

    Private Health Insurance does not contribute towards the cost of your consultations.

What to bring to your appointment

  • Please bring all current eyewear, including:

    • Glasses

    • Sunglasses

    • Contact lenses or contact lens boxes

    • Safety glasses, if applicable

  • Bring a list of your current medications to your appointment, as well as any details of chronic health conditions (for example, diabetes). We will also ask for your GP details.

    • Medicare card

    • Private Health Insurance card if you have “extras” cover

    • Department of Veteran Affairs card (if you are eligible)

    • Concession card (if you are eligible)
